Something a Little Different....

''Following'' 36''x 36'' Oil on Canvas -
Soon to be on display at the Lotus Cafe, Encinitas, CA

The painting proposed a challenge to me for blending realism and fantasy and looking for a way to illustrate a mystery..how much of life feels like 'the real thing' and how much feels like a 'dream'?

Starting in January, I'll add a third class on Wednesdays, and there is still room for two more artists to join.
Thank you for viewing my artwork.

Umbrian Vineyard
12''x 16'' Oil on Gessobord
The beauty of painting is we can re-visit our "happy places" when we paint from our photos!

On another note, we had a visit from a Blue Jay who has made our home his 'happy peanut-place'!
We have put out peanuts daily for 6-7 years, finding only a couple of birds became friendly.
We had not seen this gorgeous Blue Jay before today.  He made himself right at home!
Enjoy the fun with our new BFF!

We found it hilarious to see him fly onto Chris' camera while trying to take his picture!...As you may know, Chris is a bird Photographer! https://www.facebook.com/Chris-Mayne-Avian-Photography-167492589939993/timeline/?ref=br_tf

Paint All Over

Paint All Over - 9x12''

Sometimes a good idea can be better with a little more thought.   Recently I read Anne Blair Brown's blog reiterating Kevin McPherson's idea of mixing a light grey and dark grey + black to do value studies with.
What really made this process work easily was to use Richeson Grey Matters Palette Paper to easily determine whether my light (grey or colored) value mixtures are lighter than the mid-toned paper, and whether my shadow value mixtures (grey or colored) are a little darker than the paper.

We've all heard ''Fail to plan and plan to fail''.  This plan is a good one!

Summer Songs

Juicy Containers - 9 x 12''
Magnolia - 9 x 12''
Painting fruits and flowers that are fresh at this time is one way to savor summer all year long!  When composing these pieces, I experimented with warm and cool temperatures of the lighting and the objects themselves.
These paintings are available for purchase. $350 each.

I hear Mangoes, Papayas, and Dragonfruit calling...!

A New Vase

A New Vase
9x12'' - Oil on Linen
I purchased this hand-painted vintage vase in San Clemente @ Jill's Abode.
Add Peonies, and I'm one happy gal!
Sometimes the little things are really the big things to the heart.

May News

Melon Carver, Chiang Mai
12x16'' Oil on Gessobord
After a month-long show of 30 Floral paintings in my community's beautiful Library, I have turned my attention to teaching again, as well as expanding my painting subjects.
While my goal is catching the light and shadows, I'm intrigued to explore richer brushwork, textures, and compositions.
I will be posting new paintings monthly and any new fun projects, or passing on artistic insights.
Feel free to share my blog with interested friends.

All the best,
Carole
